Frequently asked “Tattoo” questions

  • Do you take walk-ins? We try to take as many as possible but an appointment is always best. Also consider the piece you are wanting to get, it may take a few days to prepare your piece. We want to be able to design a piece that you will be proud to show off and that will stand the test of time.
  • Do you takes credit cards? Not at this time, cash only.
  • Can my have my parent/guardian sign for me to get a tattoo? Unfortunately no, in the city of St. Joseph you must be 18.  This is a city law, there are reputable shops that are able to legally tattoo minors just make sure to check the local city and state laws and as always check portfolios.
  • Should I tip? While it is never expected it is always greatly appreciated. A tip is nothing more than a compliment on a job well done.
  • How much for ……? Accurate price can be tricky especially through phone/messages, a lot can get miss-communicated, lost, or misunderstood and can lead to inaccurate quotes. The best option for a quote is to stop by the shop, any of us here would be glad to discuss your piece with you. Our shop minimum is $75 with prices going up from there based on size, location, detail, color, etc.. If you would like to stop by the shop or reach us through the contact page with a detailed description of your piece and reference pics(if available) we will try our best to give you a rough estimate on your piece, please keep in mind however that finial price may change depending on final design.
  • Does it hurt? Simply, yes. Some hurt more than others, but if you prepare yourself to get a tattoo by eating well before you come, staying hydrated, getting plenty of sleep the night before (try to keep the partying to a minimum the night before) and come in knowing there will be pain but we will work with you to get you through it, and you will be fine. Some people like to bring a book, Ipad(WiFi available), headphones etc. to help keep there mind off of the tattoo.
  • Can I bring my friends? Certainly, we have no problem with you bringing some company or support, however keep it minimal. Too many people can often lead to distractions for you as well as the artist.  It is usually best to try and keep it to one guest so that the artist space is not crowded and they can fully concentrate on giving you the piece that you are wanting.  (Also please keep in mind it is NEVER a good idea to bring a young child into the tattoo shop while you are coming in to get tattooed)
  • I just want a tattoo, what should I get? While we are happy to help you design your custom piece, please have a general idea on the direction you are heading.  We will need an idea of the general placement, size, and description at the very least.
  • How do I take care of my new tattoo? PLEASE DON’T ASK YOUR FRIENDS! Trust us we do this for a living, after your tattoo we go over every aspect of aftercare as well as provide you with an aftercare sheet and we are always available either at the shop 816-749-4088  Tuesday through Saturday, Facebook, Or through the contact page anytime to answer your questions.
  • Can I just call to set up my appointment? It is always best to stop by the shop to discuss your piece for us to get an accurate description of what you are wanting. We can however get it set up if you are from out of town or otherwise unable to get to the shop during business hours.  We do accept PayPal for deposits not being able to be made in person.
  • Will you draw something up for me? Of course, we would be happy to design a custom piece for you. In order to get the drawing process started we would need for you to choose an artist, contact us to work the schedules out, and place a deposit to hold the spot(deposit will come off the final price of the tattoo).
  • Will you come to my house and tattoo me? Simply no. We want to give you the highest quality tattoo possible in a clean sterile environment.
  • Can I take pictures during the tattoo? Definitely, we encourage you to take as many as you like and share them on social media (as long as the person getting tattooed is ok with the pictures being taken, and your not distracting your artist while doing so)
  • Is it okay to tan or be in the sun after getting a new tattoo? Definitely not! You will want to hold off until it is completely healed. Any form of tanning can, and will, damage and fade a tattoo. If you are a sun worshiper, I recommend a SPF 30+ sun block. In general it is best to stay out of the sun and tanning booths, especially during the healing process.
  • How long can I expect my tattoo to take to heal? Tattoos take between 7-10 days for the initial healing process. It can take up to 2 months for your skin and hair to grow back to normal.
  • Is it normal for my new tattoo to scab? Flaking, peeling, dryness are all natural parts of the healing process. Severe scabs that are deep and thick may indicate a need to change your aftercare routine and should be addressed with your tattoo artist.
  • Can you fix/cover-up a bad tattoo I have?  A consultation would be necessary to discuss the possibility of the cover-up/rework.
  • How much is the deposit for an appointment? Deposits will depend on the piece being done. Typically between $50-$100. This is non-refundable, however we will work with your schedule if something comes up and it needs to be rescheduled. Please give us at least 48 hours notice for schedule changes. No-call/no-shows will forfeit their deposit.
  • Do you do ultraviolet/black light tattoos? No, we do not.
  • Do you do “white” tattoos? We use white as a highlight and in different aspects of shading, however we strongly recommend against all white tattoos, they tend to discolor and look more like a scar as the tattoo ages.

Frequently asked “Piercing” questions

  • How old do you have to be to get a piercing? Without a parent or guardian, 18. With a parent or legal guardian generally speaking 14, however this will depend on the piercing. If under 18 we will need a photo ID from both the minor and parent/guardian.
  •  How much for…..? Piercings start at $30 and go up from there depending on the piercing and jewelry choices.
